Ranveer Allahbadia fails to appear before Assam Police
What's the story
Popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia failed to appear before the Assam Police in Guwahati on Tuesday.
The authorities confirmed that neither Allahbadia nor his legal team had informed them about his absence.
A senior police official told IANS, "Allahbadia did not inform us about his non-appearance before the police team. We were not contacted by his lawyer either."
The podcaster is being investigated for his crass comments on comedian Samay Raina's YouTube show India's Got Latent.
Ongoing investigation
Fellow panelist Ashish Chanchlani was questioned last week
Allahbadia is now being probed by the Guwahati Police, who had summoned him for questioning.
Separately, another YouTuber, Ashish Chanchlani, was questioned last week by the Guwahati Crime Branch for his appearance on an episode of India's Got Latent.
Joint Police Commissioner Ankur Jain confirmed that Chanchlani cooperated during the questioning and may be called again if required.
Further, fresh summons will be issued to other co-accused in the case.
Legal proceedings
Chanchlani's legal plea and temporary relief
Chanchlani has sought to quash the FIR registered at the Guwahati Crime Branch, Guwahati Police Commissioner's Cyber Police Station.
He suggested that the Guwahati FIR be transferred to Mumbai since the Maharashtra FIR was registered first.
On February 18, while hearing his anticipatory bail plea, the Guwahati High Court granted him temporary relief and directed him to appear in person before the investigating officer within 10 days.
