Ranveer Allahbadia row: YouTube removes controversial 'India's Got Latent' episode
What's the story
After massive backlash online, the controversial episode of India's Got Latent (IGL) featuring YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia's objectionable remarks has been taken down by YouTube.
The episode was removed after the Information and Broadcasting Ministry asked for its deletion. National Human Rights Commission member Priyank Kanoongo had also called for its removal.
In his crass remarks, Allahbadia asked a contestant if they'd watch their parents have sex or join to stop it.
Case filed
Legal action was initiated against Allahbadia and co-hosts
Amid the controversy over Allahbadia's remarks, Guwahati Police on Monday registered a case against him and four others.
The complaint was filed by a city resident who accused them of "promoting obscenity" on a publicly accessible online show.
Along with Allahbadia, stand-up comedian and host Samay Raina, content creators Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija (The Rebel Kid) were also named in the case.
Apology issued
Allahbadia's apology and impact on his popularity
Allahbadia, aka BeerBiceps, apologized for his comments: "My comment wasn't just inappropriate, it wasn't even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry."
However, this controversy has already affected his popularity.
According to Qoruz, an influencer marketing intelligence platform, Allahbadia lost 8,358 followers across his two Instagram profiles within five days of the incident. Moreover, he lost 2 million subscribers on YouTube.
Recently, singer B Praak announced he will not appear on Allahbadia's podcast.
