Piracy strikes again! Rani Mukerji's 'Mardaani 2' leaked online
Rani Mukerji-starrer cop drama movie Mardaani 2 has become the latest victim of the seemingly unending practice of video piracy. The film was leaked online on Friday, just hours after its official theatrical release. Reportedly, the movie is now available for streaming and download in HD quality on various illegal platforms like Tamilrockers, Filmywap, and 123movies. Here's more on this.
Free internet access may bring down 'Mardaani's business
Although the cat-and-mouse action thriller has garnered mostly positive reviews from critics and registered a decent box office opening, its easy and free-of-cost availability on several websites may hinder its long-term box office prospects. Additionally, according to a report by The Indian Express, Hollywood fantasy-adventure flick Jumanji: The Next Level that also released Friday, too, has been leaked online by notorious piracy giant Tamilrockers.
Many major movies were illegally leaked online, this year
The practice of online film piracy has become unstoppable lately. In the recent past, many major movies such as Saaho, Kabir Singh, Bharat, Kalank, Gully Boy, Student of the Year 2, The Lion King, and Avengers: Endgame, fell prey to piracy.
Despite court action, piracy still out of control in India
Notably, many Indian courts have taken action against piracy, in the past. Last year, the Madras High Court banned over 12,000 illegal piracy websites. However, websites like Tamilrockers still end up leaking every major film, soon after their release. Reportedly, these platforms operate freely by perpetually switching their domain extension, thus becoming hard to track. Further, they can be easily accessed using proxy servers.
'Mardaani 2' is a sequel to 2014 hit film
Directed by Gopi Puthran, Mardaani 2 sees Mukerji reprising her role as SP Shivani Shivaji Roy, in her fight against women-centered crimes. It's a sequel to the 2014 hit film Mardaani. The movie follows Shivani chasing a young serial rapist and murderer. The film has received mostly positive critic reviews and has collected an estimated Rs. 10 crore, by end of its second day.
