'Dhahanam': Trailer for Ram Gopal Varma's web series is out
Popular filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is finally coming up with his first web series, Dhahanam. Backed by Varma, the Telugu show will tell the story of different ideologies, politics, bloodshed, and revenge. Agastya Manju is directing the series. Notably, Manju had also helmed Varma's pandemic film, Coronavirus, back in 2020. MX Player dropped the trailer for Dhahanam on Friday. Here is a breakdown.
Naxalite son seeks revenge for father's death
The trailer for the show drops us in a village that has elements of rebels, muscled goons, and political figures vying for control. In the midst we see communist leader Sri Ramulu lobbying for the land rights of the commoners. However, things take a turn when Ramulu is killed and his eldest son, Hari—who is a Naxalite—sets out to seek revenge.

'Dhahanam' drops on MX Player on April 14
Coming from the house of Varma, the filmmaker who has produced several acclaimed crime thrillers, we can expect honesty in portrayal and brutal social commentary. The show stars Isha Koppikar, Abhishek Duhan, Naina Ganguly, Ashwatkanth Sharma, Parvathy Arun, Sayaji Shinde, Abhilash Chaudhary, and Pradeep Rawat. The seven-episode series, with dubbed versions available in Hindi and Tamil, will premiere on MX Player on April 14.
'The story of a circle of revenge'
Speaking about the venture, Varma said, "Dhahanam tells not a story of just revenge, but the story of a circle of revenge." "The story runs in a grey area between two contradictory quotes: 'An eye for an eye will only succeed in making the whole world blind,' said by Mahatma Gandhi, and 'Revenge is the purest emotion,' as quoted in the Mahabharata," he added.
'Gaalivaana' is premiering on ZEE5 on same day
Dhahanam will have to compete for eyeballs in the OTT space with another Telugu release, Gaalivaana, also coming out on April 14. Backed by BBC Studios India and NorthStar Entertainment, the latter will premiere on ZEE5. An official remake of BBC drama One of Us, Gaalivaana features Radikaa Sarathkumar, Sai Kumar, Chandini Chowdary, Nandini Rai, Chaitanya Krishna, Thagubothu Ramesh, and Ashritha Vemuganti, among others.
