It's official! Rajkummar Rao to play Sourav Ganguly on screen
What's the story
Former Indian men's cricket team captain and ex-BCCI chief, Sourav Ganguly, has confirmed that Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao will play him in his upcoming biopic.
This comes after several actors were speculated to play the lead.
Ganguly himself announced the news during a media interaction in West Bengal's Bardhaman on Thursday.
He also revealed that the film's release is expected to take over a year due to scheduling conflicts.
Film's release
'Will take more than a year to hit the screens'
Ganguly was quoted by ANI as saying, "From what I've heard, Rajkummar Rao will play the role (the titular role)...but there are issues of dates...so it will take more than a year to hit the screens."
Before Rao's confirmation, several other actors including Ayushmann Khurrana and Ranbir Kapoor were considered for the lead role in the biopic.
However, it is now confirmed that Rao will portray him.

Rao's upcoming projects and new production house
Rao is currently busy with some exciting projects.
He will be seen in Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films's Bhool Chuk Maaf, a unique time-loop film set in Varanasi, co-starring Wamiqa Gabbi. The film releases on April 10, 2025.
Rao will also play a gangster in the action thriller Maalik, which will be released on June 20, 2025.
He has also launched his production house with his wife Patralekhaa.
