Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar come together for 'Badhaai Ho' sequel
All the Bollywood buffs, cheer up! One of the best family entertainers in recent times Badhaai Ho is set to get a sequel. And it doesn't end here, the upcoming movie titled Badhaai Do, will see powerhouse actors Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar teaming up for the first time. The movie is planned to be directed by Harshavardhan Kulkarni, who has previously helmed Hunterrr.
Rajkummar plays a Delhi-based cop, Bhumi a PT teacher
According to a report in TOI, the new movie will be written by Akshat Ghildial (who also co-wrote Badhaai Ho), along with Suman Adhikary. While Rajkummar will be seen essaying the role of a Delhi-based cop, who happens to be the only male officer in a women's police station, his counterpart Bhumi will don the hat of a PT teacher for the exciting comedy-drama.
Relevant, relatable, yet hilarious, Bhumi said about the movie
Calling Badhaai Ho one of her favorite films lately, Bhumi said about the project, "It is really exciting to take this franchise forward." Praising the script, the actor added that her character is "strong, independent and author-backed." "This time, too, the film will say something extremely relevant and relatable, but in a hilarious manner," she concluded.
'Badhaai Do' is a reunion in many ways, Rajkummar said
Meanwhile, talking about his role, Rajkummar said, "I look for layered characters and this is a perfect match. My character is surrounded by strong women at home and work, and that adds immense depth to his personality." "Junglee Pictures' [which produces the forthcoming film] Bareilly Ki Barfi was a fabulous experience for me. Badhaai Do is a reunion in many ways," the actor added.
'Badhaai Do' to go on floors this June
Directed by Amit Sharma, National award-winning Badhaai Ho, that released in 2018, revolved around a middle-aged couple (played by Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao) who unexpectedly get pregnant, much to the disappointment of their family. The movie also starred Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra. Now, Badhaai Do is set to go on floors this June and will hit theaters early next year.
