What's the story

Vir Hirani, son of acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, will be making his acting debut in a web series. The Disney+ Hotstar project will not only mark Vir's debut but also his father's first foray into the world of digital content creation. A source from the creative team told Mid-Day that the show will be a cybercrime thriller. Earlier, reports suggested Vir might debut through an OTT slice-of-life film but it looks like he'll greet fans first through the cop show.

Casting change

Vir replaced Vikrant Massey due to this reason

Initially, Arshad Warsi and Vikrant Massey were cast as the two leads. However, due to Massey's other commitments, Vir has been roped in to replace him. The source said the series explores "what transpires when two diverse personalities are brought together to solve crimes." Warsi will play an old-fashioned cop while Vir will play a young tech-savvy officer who uses technology to solve cases. Massey will now play the antagonist.

Production updates

Behind-the-scenes changes and Vir's preparation for role

The series, tentatively titled Pritam Pedro, has seen some behind-the-scenes changes. Initially, Amir Satyaveer Singh, an assistant of Hirani Sr., was supposed to direct it. However, it will now be directed by Paatal Lok director Avinash Arun. Meanwhile, Vir is reportedly undergoing intense physical training and enhancing his computer skills to convincingly portray his character.

Artistic background

Vir's previous experience in film and theater

Vir comes from a rich film and theater background. He assisted his father during the shoot of Sanju (2018) and studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. He has directed a few short films, including The Obituary, and made his stage debut with a play titled Letters From Suresh. A source revealed that Vir delivered a 35-minute monologue in this play.
