Rajinikanth opens up on his recent box office failures
Rajinikanth, who is currently gearing up for the release of 'Kaala', recently spoke about the box office failure of his films 'Kochadaiiyaan' and 'Lingaa'. Present at the audio launch of 'Kaala', the megastar said that the critics have time and again written him off but he has bounced back each time. Here's more on what he said.
Rajinikanth revealed the reason of doing 'Lingaa'
He asserted that the subplot of 'Lingaa' was close to his heart and that is the reason he agreed to do the film. "I agreed to the story because the main story revolved around building a dam and interlinking of rivers was also a subplot. Interlinking of rivers is my lifetime dream, so I gave my nod immediately," said the 67-year-old actor.
Here's what he has to say about his critics
"After the failure of 'Lingaa', critics, in no time, wrote me off. They have been doing that for 40 years of my career. But, I bounced back every single time," quipped Rajinikanth.
He was wary of 'Kochadaiiyaan' failure
Rajinikanth said that after he saw the final version of 'Kochadaiiyaan', he knew the film won't work at the box office. 'Kochadaiiyaan' was directed by his daughter Soundarya. "Soundarya listed out a post-production budget to enhance the film's final version. But, I was sure that this film wouldn't be successful. So, I insisted on releasing the film with the same version," he said.
Meanwhile, 'Kaala' will hit the screens next month
'Kaala', directed by Pa. Ranjith and produced by Dhanush's Wunderbar Films, will release on June 7. Besides Rajinikanth, the film also stars Huma Qureshi, Anjali Patil, Samuthirakani and Pankaj Tripathi. Rajinikanth and Ranjith have previously collaborated on 'Kabali' in 2016.
