'The Raja Saab': Prabhas plays common man in ₹350cr project
Famed for his grandiose roles, actor Prabhas is set to take on a new challenge in his upcoming film, The Raja Saab, where he will portray a common man. This Telugu horror-comedy, penned and directed by Maruthi, signifies a shift from Prabhas's prior larger-than-life characters in movies such as Adipurush (2023) and the recent Kalki 2898 AD. In the new film, Prabhas's character visits his family's ancestral property, triggering an unforeseen series of events, reported Mid-Day.
'The Raja Saab' resumes filming with star-studded cast
Prabhas resumed filming for The Raja Saab in Hyderabad last week, sharing the screen with co-stars Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, and Riddhi Kumar. Despite its seemingly ordinary storyline, the film has a substantial budget of ₹350 crore. Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt also features in a significant role. The film is set to reach audiences nationwide and will be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada languages.
'The Raja Saab' aims to build 'Harry Potter'-like atmosphere
"The project rolled in late 2022," an inside source told Mid-Day, adding that Prabhas joined the latest leg of filming only last week. The film sees Prabhas in a relatable role after a long time, contrasting his recent extraordinary characters. The makers aim to create a unique atmosphere for the horror-comedy, with aspirations to build the film's world akin to franchises like Harry Potter or Bhool Bhulaiyaa. The entire movie is being shot in Hyderabad on elaborate sets.
Currently, Prabhas shooting romantic song with Agerwal
The high budget of The Raja Saab is due to its massive sets and extensive use of special effects. "Given the nature of the story, a huge amount of special effects is involved. The sets too are opulent," explained an inside source. Currently, a grand set designed by Rajeevan Nambiar is being used to shoot a romantic song featuring Prabhas and Agerwal. The current schedule includes dramatic scenes and will continue until the end of the month.
