'Legend of Maula...': Raj Thackeray opposes release of Fawad's film
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has expressed strong opposition to the release of the Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt in Maharashtra. The film, starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, is scheduled for release on October 2. This would be the first Pakistani film to hit Indian theaters in over a decade. Thackeray's statement comes amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.
Thackeray criticizes cultural exchanges with Pakistan
Thackeray has criticized the idea of cultural exchanges with Pakistan, citing the strained relations between the two countries. In a post on X on Sunday, he said, "Art does not have national borders, this is all right in other cases, but in the case of Pakistan, this will not work at all." He further questioned the rationale behind allowing Pakistani actors to showcase their films in India.
'This movie will not be released in Maharashtra'
"What is the beginning of bringing the country's actors here to dance and show their films on the single issue of hatred of India? Let alone Maharashtra, the government should not allow this movie to be screened in any state of the country," Thackeray said. He added, "Of course, what the rest of the states should do is their question. It is certain that this movie will not be released in Maharashtra."
MNS warns of consequences if film is screened
Thackeray has urged theater owners to refrain from screening the film, warning of potential consequences. "Everyone remembers the actions we took earlier. We do not want any conflict during the Navratri festival when this movie is slated for release, but we will not hesitate if this movie is shown in Maharashtra," he said. Ameya Khopkar, president of the MNS Cinema Wing, echoed Thackeray's sentiments and warned of repercussions if cinemas screen the film.
