'Raid 2,' 'Lahore 1947': Don't miss these 2025 big releases
The upcoming year, 2025, is set to be a blockbuster for Hindi cinema with an array of highly anticipated films scheduled for release. Following the success of recent hits like Jawan, Pathan, Gadar 2, Animal, Stree 2, and Shaitaan among others, Bollywood is ready to dominate the box office once again post-pandemic. The forthcoming slate promises a diverse mix of genres from action thrillers to socially relevant dramas.
'Sky Force' and 'Lahore 1947' to kickstart the year
One of the most awaited films of 2025 is Akshay Kumar's Sky Force, an action-packed aerial war drama based on true events from India's military history. Directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Kapur, the film features Kumar as an Air Force officer. Initially slated for an October 2024 release, it was postponed to January 2025 due to post-production work. Another historical drama creating buzz is Sunny Deol's Lahore 1947 (January 26), directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and backed by Aamir Khan.
'Lahore 1947' marks Deol-Santoshi reunion after 2 decades
Lahore 1947, based on the famous play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya O Jamyai Nai by Asghar Wajahat, stars Preity Zinta and Deol's son Karan Deol. The film also marks a reunion for Deol and Santoshi after two decades. Speaking about their relationship, Santoshi told ETimes, "Sunny and I have always shared a deep mutual respect and a strong desire to collaborate on films." "Our director-actor bond is truly unique...I'm thrilled to reunite with him."
Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor to make theatrical debut
2025 will also witness the theatrical debut of Aamir's son Junaid Khan and Sridevi's daughter Khushi Kapoor. They will be seen in the Hindi remake of a 2022 Tamil film, directed by Advait Chandan. The romantic film is set to release on February 7, aiming to capitalize on the Valentine's Day spirit. This marks the second film for both lead actors, with their first films Maharaj and The Archies respectively released on Netflix.
'Raid 2,' 'Jolly LLB 3': Sequels to watch out for
Another major release of 2025 is Ajay Devgn's Raid 2, a sequel to the 2018 hit Raid. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, the film (February 21) continues IRS officer Amay Patnaik's fight against corruption. The first installment was a critical and commercial success. Moreover, Jolly LLB 3 featuring Kumar and Arshad Warsi is also on the cards for April next year. The popular courtroom drama series is known for blending humor with social commentary.
'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari,' 'De De Pyaar De 2'
Varun Dhawan and director Shashank Khaitan are collaborating for their third film together, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. The film (targeting April release) stars Janhvi Kapoor, Manish Paul, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, and Akshay Oberoi alongside Dhawan. Their previous collaborations were box office hits. Also on the comedy front is De De Pyaar De 2 (May 1, 2025) featuring Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh continuing their love story from the first installment of the hit 2019 film.
'War 2' to conclude the year with high-octane action
The sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War, War 2 is one of the biggest films of 2025. It brings together two powerhouses of Indian cinema—Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 (August 14, 2025) promises to be a high-octane action thriller that raises the stakes from the first film. The addition of NTR, fresh off his success from RRR, is expected to deliver electrifying action sequences and potentially attract massive business in South India as well.
