'Raazi' opening weekend collection: Alia's film defies all predictions
'Raazi', a spy-thriller driven by a female character, was expected to put up average numbers upon its release. Such has been the case with this genre of films over the years. However, the Alia Bhatt starrer defied all norms and predictions as it went on to collect a whopping Rs. 32.94 crore in its opening weekend.

Alia, with her smart choices of films and power-packed performances, has blended critical acclaim with commercial success, a rarity for actors these days. All of her recent movies, 'Kapoor And Sons', 'Udta Punjab', 'Dear Zindagi', 'Badrinath Ki Dulhania' and now 'Raazi', received a thumbs up from the critics and emerged successful at the box office.

Based on a novel titled 'Calling Sehmat' by Harinder Sikka, 'Raazi' has been directed by Meghna Gulzar. This is her second directorial venture after Irrfan Khan starrer 'Talvar', which released in 2015. Backed by Karan Johar, the film also features Vicky Kaushal. 'Raazi' narrates the story of an Indian girl who gets married to a Pakistani armyman during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971.
