Quentin Tarantino says 'no desire' to watch 'Toy Story 4'
Acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino recently revealed that he has "no desire" to watch the fourth installment of the popular animated franchise, Toy Story. During an appearance on the comedy podcast Club Random with Bill Maher, the 61-year-old filmmaker discussed his love for the original Toy Story trilogy and explained in detail why he is not interested in viewing any subsequent films, especially Toy Story 4 (2019).
Tarantino praised 'Toy Story' trilogy and praised other film series
Tarantino, known for directing films like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, expressed his admiration for the Toy Story trilogy stating, "I don't watch all the animated movies and stuff, but I'm a big fan of the Toy Story trilogy." "I think there's only one trilogy that completely and utterly works to the Nth degree and that's A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly."
'Toy Story 3' is 'one of the best movies': Tarantino
The director went on to praise Toy Story 3, calling it "one of the best movies" he has ever seen. However, he expressed his lack of interest in watching the fourth installment, stating, "If you've seen the other two, it's just devastating. Then three years later or something they did a fourth, and I have no desire to see it." "You literally ended the story as perfectly as you could, so no, I don't care if it's good. I'm done."
'Toy Story 5' is currently in development—set for 2026 release
Despite Tarantino's disinterest in the franchise's future installments, Toy Story 5 is currently in development. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed at this year's D23 Expo that Andrew Stanton, a two-time Oscar winner who directed the original film, will return to helm the project. The upcoming movie, which explores the theme of children's obsession with technology, is slated for release on June 19, 2026.
