    What's the story

The countdown has begun for the premiere of Season 3 of Prime Video's popular comedy-drama series Panchayat.

The third chapter will premiere on Tuesday (May 28).

Just days before, Deepak Kumar Mishra, the director and one of the writers made a big revelation: Panchayat has officially entered its fourth season of production.

In addition to this, he also revealed plans for a fifth season.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

Panchayat quickly captivated audiences upon its 2020 debut and continued its success with a second season in 2022, drawing praise from viewers.

Featuring talents like Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, and Raghubir Yadav, the show's portrayal of rural life in Uttar Pradesh struck a chord even with urban viewers.

The show follows the journey of an engineering graduate who reluctantly becomes a Panchayat secretary in the fictional village of Phulera.

    Production details

'Broader idea for Season 5': Mishra

Speaking to PTI, Mishra has disclosed that the writing process for the fourth season of Panchayat is already underway.

"We have started writing season four. For us, generally, there's no break between two seasons. The third season is over and we have written three to four episodes of the show," he said.

"So far, we have thought about making seasons four and five. For season four, we have a clear idea, and there is a broader idea for season five."

    Reflection

Mishra reflected on uncertainties surrounding show's debut in 2020

Meanwhile, reflecting on the beginning of Panchayat, Mishra reminisced about the uncertainties surrounding the show's debut.

"As the show was in a different space at that point of time, there was a theory about how much will be its acceptability."

"So, we had that much confidence that if people watched the entire show, then it would be a hit. But what if they don't watch it? Then, there would be a problem."

However, overcoming the odds, Panchayat emerged successful.

    Show insight

Director was 'cautious not to be swayed by show's success'

Further, Mishra expressed that while creating the third season, they were cautious not to be swayed by the show's success.

"We wanted to take the story forward organically. However, we have to make sure that the new season is more entertaining and emotional," he said.

The upcoming third season, produced by The Viral Fever, will debut in Hindi and feature dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
