'Inspired by Vedas and Mahabharata': Priyadarshan teases 'Bhooth Bangla'
After a gap of 14 years, filmmaker Priyadarshan and actor Akshay Kumar are reuniting for the upcoming film Bhooth Bangla. The movie is a horror-comedy, a genre that Priyadarshan had previously explored with Kumar in the 2007 hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa. In a recent interview with Times Now, the director opened up about working with Kumar again and shared details about their new project.
'Akshay has the indomitable spirit of a true hero'
When asked about Kumar's recent career slump, Priyadarshan told the portal, "Who hasn't gone through a lean phase in his career? I have. Haven't you?" He further added, "Akshay has the indomitable spirit of a true hero. Nothing can keep him down." The director also revealed that Kumar and Malayalam actor Mohanlal are two actors who trust him implicitly.
'Bhooth Bangla is based on mythology and black magic'
When asked about the plot of Bhoot Bangla, Priyadarshan said, "It will be a new phase in the horror-comedy space. Bhooth Bangla is based on mythology and black magic. It is inspired by our Vedas and even the Mahabharat." He further added, "But black magic is the dominant theme. It is a fun film." He also added that his film has no similarities with Mehmood's namesake movie.
Why Priyadarshan didn't direct 'Phir Hera Pheri'
Priyadarshan also mentioned that he doesn't look at what others are doing or even his own films. "Once I finish making it, I move on," he said. "This is why i never did a sequel to Hera Pheri. why should I do the same thing when there are so many stories to tell?" The director believes in telling new stories rather than repeating the same ones.
'Bhooth Bangla gives me leverage to make other films'
When asked about the kind of cinema he wants to make, Priyadarshan said, "There are two Priyadarshans: the one who makes the cinema he believes in, like the recent anthology of Vasudev Nair's stories Manorathangal. Then there is the other Priyadarshan who makes the films audiences want." "Bhooth Bangla gives me the leverage and courage to make other kinds of films." The film reportedly also stars Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, and Asrani.
