"When I made the first part, I made sure that it was a self-contained film, with a proper ending to the story. However, with Empuraan, I have taken a chance as a filmmaker. This film will need the third part for its completion."
The film will be released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi this Thursday.

All of us were confident that the film would be met with a lot of excitement. But this is way beyond our prediction. We are humbled and hope to live up to such a huge expectation."
Standalone film
'Empuraan' remains standalone despite being a sequel
Sukumaran assured fans that Empuraan, though a sequel, is still a standalone film.
He emphasized that everyone can understand the film even if they haven't watched its predecessor, Lucifer.
"Writer Murali Gopy and I were particular the film can be understood by everyone. Except for a few callbacks and references, the film will be a standalone story."
He hopes viewers will be encouraged to watch Lucifer after seeing Empuraan.
