Prasar Bharati has an OTT platform now, called Waves
India's public broadcasting giant Prasar Bharati has unveiled its new streaming platform, Waves, at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The launch marks the broadcaster's entry into the nation's competitive streaming market. Waves offers a diverse range of content in over 12 languages and more than 10 genres, including video-on-demand content, free gaming, radio streaming, and 65 live channels.
Waves OTT platform features e-commerce capabilities
In a bid to set itself apart from other streaming services, Waves has added e-commerce capabilities in partnership with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The first content line-up includes the fantasy action title Monkey King the Hero is Back, National Award winner Fouja, and Vipul Shah's thriller series Bhed Bharam. Other highlights include Fauji 2.0 starring Gauahar Khan and family drama Thode Door Thode Paas with Pankaj Kapur, reported PIB.
Waves OTT platform has something for everyone
The platform also serves kids with animation programming like Doggy Adventure, Chota Bheem, Tenaliram, and Akbar Birbal. It includes games such as Krishna Jump, Fruit Chef, Ram the Yodha, and the US Cricket Premier League tournament. Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi emphasized that Waves brings "a wide range of content for clean family viewing into every Indian home that can use this platform to watch, listen, read, play, shop in a curated environment."
Waves OTT platform's strategic partnerships and content acquisition
Waves has partnered with several content providers, including Lionsgate for video and gaming companies like Mud Games and Tag Labs. Educational content providers like PACE have also come on board to provide test preparation tutorials. The platform's 2024 policy details a content acquisition strategy focusing on urban, metro, middle India, and non-resident Indian audiences.
