Complaint against Vijay for allegedly disrespecting Muslims at Iftar gathering
What's the story
The Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamaat has filed a police complaint against actor-turned-politician Vijay, alleging he disrespected the Muslim community at an Iftar event on Friday.
The complaint, filed at the Chennai Police Commissioner's office, alleges Vijay's event was insensitive and hurtful to Muslims.
Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamaat's treasurer Syed Ghous asserted that people having nothing to do with fasting or Islamic practices attended the event, disrespecting Iftar's sanctity.
Criticism
'Vijay's poorly managed iftar event caused distress'
According to News 18, Ghous also accused Vijay of poorly organizing the Iftar event, resulting in chaos and discomfort.
He criticized Vijay's conduct, claiming the superstar showed no remorse for the alleged mishandling of the Iftar event.
"Despite the incidents at the Iftar event, Vijay did not express any regret or take responsibility."
"This raises serious questions about whether he genuinely respects religious sentiments or if his participation was merely for political gain," Ghous added.
Security concerns
Actor's use of foreign security personnel also criticized
The Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamaat also slammed Vijay for employing foreign security personnel at the event, accusing him of treating the attendees poorly.
"People were treated like cattle at the event. Vijay's foreign bodyguards handled the crowd in an inhumane manner, showing a lack of basic respect for human dignity."
"Such behavior cannot be tolerated, and action must be taken to prevent this from happening again," Ghous said.
Demand
'Legal action should be taken against Vijay...'
The Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamaat demanded immediate legal action against Vijay, arguing his actions have deeply hurt the Muslim community.
"We are not filing this complaint for publicity. We are doing this to ensure that such incidents do not happen again."
"Vijay must face legal consequences for insulting the Muslim community," Ghous said.
Notably, Vijay's party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) had organized the Iftar event at the Royapettah YMCA grounds in Chennai.
