Phil Dunster joins Steve Carell in upcoming HBO comedy series
Phil Dunster, best known for his role as Jamie Tartt in the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso, will be joining Steve Carell in an upcoming HBO comedy series. The untitled show is written by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, with Lawrence also being the co-creator of Ted Lasso. The show was first commissioned by HBO back in May and has been scheduled for a 10-episode run.
HBO series to explore author-daughter relationship
The upcoming HBO comedy series is a single-camera show based on a college campus. It will explore the complicated relationship between an author and his daughter. However, details of Dunster's character in this story are not known yet. The role further adds to Dunster's already impressive acting portfolio which includes shows like The Devil's Hour, Strike Back, Humans, and movies like Murder on the Orient Express and The Good Liar.
Dunster's recent ventures into directing and philanthropy
Along with acting, Dunster also recently took the plunge into directing with his short film Idiomatic, which he also wrote, produced, and starred in. The film premiered at this year's TriBeCa Film Festival and won Best Comic Distortions at SCAD Savannah Film Festival Shorts Spotlight. Additionally, Dunster serves as an ambassador for Young Lives vs Cancer. He will host a charity fundraising event on November 24 at London's Victoria Palace Theater.
Production details of the upcoming HBO comedy series
The first episode of the new HBO series is written by Lawrence and Tarses, who are also executive producers. Carell will star in and executive produce the show. Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer are also executive producers along with Lawrence through Doozer Productions. Warner Bros. Television, where both Lawrence and Tarses have overall deals, is the production studio behind this project.
