Paris Olympics: Closing ceremony to feature Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg
The 2024 Paris Olympics is set to conclude in a grand fashion with a star-studded closing ceremony on Sunday. The event will feature performances from renowned musicians including Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Hollywood actor Tom Cruise will also participate in a stunt-filled segment. The ceremony, which will be broadcast from Los Angeles, is being coordinated by producer Ben Winston.
Musical performances and daring stunts
The closing ceremony will include a mix of pre-taped and live performances. Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are confirmed to perform, while Cruise will showcase daring motorcycle stunts in France. This will be followed by a pre-recorded segment of Cruise parachuting down next to the Hollywood sign. The event will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon and sports broadcaster Mike Tirico.
Over 100 acrobats to perform at Stade de France
The ceremony will also feature over 100 acrobats and aerial performers at the Stade de France stadium. The event traditionally begins with the Parade of Flags, where athletes from each participating nation march into the stadium carrying their country's flag. The Greek flag leads the procession to honor the origins of the Olympics, while the host nation's flag concludes the parade.
Los Angeles to host next Summer Olympics
As per Olympic tradition, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass will officially receive the Olympic Torch at the end of the ceremony. This signifies Los Angeles's role as the host of the next Summer Olympics, which is scheduled to take place from July 14 to July 30, 2028.
Opening ceremony featured Lady Gaga, Celine Dion
The opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics included performances by Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, and Aya Nakamura. Lady Gaga performed Mon truc en plumes on the banks of the Seine, while Dion concluded with Edith Piaf's L'Hymne a l'amour. This marked Dion's return to the stage nearly two years after being diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome.
