Parineeti Chopra's transformation for 'Amar Singh Chamkila' cost her work
Acclaimed actor Parineeti Chopra recently disclosed her experience of gaining 15kg for her role in the film Amar Singh Chamkila. She was asked by director Imtiaz Ali to gain weight and abstain from makeup to authentically portray the character of Amarjot Kaur. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Chopra stated, "Imtiaz sir told me to gain 15kg and said there would be no makeup on my face. I had to look my worst in Chamkila and I said, 'I will do it.'"
Chopra's career and public image were impacted
Despite the potential career risks associated with such a drastic physical transformation, Chopra found inspiration in Vidya Balan, who also gained weight for her acclaimed role in The Dirty Picture. However, this change led to Chopra avoiding public appearances as she felt unrecognizable. Consequently, she missed out on work opportunities and became the subject of pregnancy and plastic surgery rumors.
Chopra's personal struggles and future plans
Chopra confessed, "As I was shooting for Chamkila for over two years, I lost out on a lot of work. I looked my worst and there were pregnancy and plastic surgery rumors, too." She admitted that fashion became less significant during this period as she didn't feel like herself. Despite these challenges, Chopra expressed a preference for roles like Kaur over red-carpet appearances. Now that filming has concluded, she is focusing on losing the weight gained for the role.
