Here's why PadMan is an underperformer at the Box Office
What's the story
Akshay Kumar's 'PadMan' had a meager start of Rs. 10 crore on the opening day, but went on to earn up to Rs. 40 crore over the weekend. The positive word of mouth fuelled the collections on Saturday and Sunday.
However, for a film that generated as much hype as it did and has Akshay as the protagonist, the figures are not up to the mark.

Expectations
PadMan opened lower than previous Akshay starrers
As Khiladi Kumar's 2017 releases, 'Jolly LLB 2' and 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha', enjoyed Rs. 13 crore on Fridays itself, 'PadMan' was atleast expected to surpass their opening day figures.
Even though the R Balki directorial witnessed a good jump on the next two days, but with the potential it had, the collections could have easily been in the vicinity of Rs. 50 crore.
Arrived solo
Could not take complete advantage of no competition
'PadMan' was earlier slated for a Republic Day release alongside 'Padmaavat' and 'Aiyaari', but as it happened, the socially relevant film finally managed a solo release. Hence, it was expected to put up some mind-boggling numbers.
Had it been a clash, the collections could have taken a severe beating considering the havoc created by the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film.
PadMan Challenge
The PadMan Challenge made much noise over social media
The promotional techniques adopted by the makers of 'PadMan' created enough buzz around the film. The 'PadMan Challenge' was all over the social media all this while.
But, the hype did not translate into the expected box office numbers, so far. Now, it would be interesting to see how this Akshay Kumar starrer sustains itself in the upcoming days.
