Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Himachal ban Padmaavat screenings
Padmaavat had originally been scheduled for release on 1st December, 2017. However, after widespread protests alleging distortion of history by right-wing groups across the country, the release date was pushed back. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actress Deepika Padukone reportedly received death threats too during the protests. Yet, despite the Censor board's clearance, Padmaavat will not be screened in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's dream finally comes true
"Padmaavat is a dream come true for me...I would also like to thank the entire film fraternity for supporting Viacom18 and Bhansali Productions through the entire production and pre-release phase and hope they like the film they so supported," said director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
