Documentary on West Bank, 'No Other Land' wins Oscar
What's the story
The West Bank-based documentary No Other Land has clinched the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
Created by a Palestinian-Israeli collective—the film triumphed over Black Box Diaries, Porcelain War, and Sugarcane.
Premiering at the Berlin Film Festival, where it claimed the Berlinale Documentary Award, the film (shot between 2019 and 2023) captures the relentless displacement of Palestinians in Masafer Yatta amid Israeli military operations.
Acceptance speech
'It reflects harsh reality that we've been enduring for decades...'
Taking the prestigious stage, Basel Adra said, "It reflects the harsh reality that we have been enduring for decades and still persists as we call to stop the injustice...and stop the ethnic cleansing of Palestine."
Since the October 7 Hamas attack, Israeli forces have killed over 48,200 Palestinians and displaced two million survivors.
Meanwhile, last year, 20 Days in Mariupol took home the award.
