Oscars 2025: Mikey Madison wins Best Actress for 'Anora'
What's the story
At just 25, Mikey Madison has already claimed a British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) and an Independent Spirit Award for her bold performance in Anora.
Now, she adds the ultimate accolade—an Oscar!
In one of the night's most interesting battles, Madison emerged victorious over frontrunners Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Demi Moore (The Substance), and Fernanda Torres (I'm Still Here).
About her role
Madison dedicated months to mastering Russian for the film
To bring Anora, a young Brooklyn sex worker, to life on screen, Madison dedicated months to mastering Russian and perfecting the distinctive Brighton Beach accent her character adopts.
She also trained intensively in pole dancing for five months to ensure authenticity in her performance.
The screwball drama—helmed by Sean Baker—revolves around a lap dancer who impulsively marries a Russian playboy, played by Mark Eydelshteyn.
