Neeraj Pandey's 'Operation Romeo' trailer: Romantic drive takes bitter turn
The trailer for Neeraj Pandey's revenge drama Operation Romeo was released recently. Pandey and Shital Bhatia's Friday Filmworks is backing the project alongside Reliance Entertainment. The film stars Sidhant Gupta and Vedika Pinto, along with Sharad Kelkar, Bhumika Chawla, and Kishor Kadam. Before Operation Romeo premieres in the theaters on April 22, let us break down the movie's trailer.
Young couple gets harassed by two 'police officers'
The 2:35-minute trailer opens with a young couple Adi (Gupta) and Neha (Pinto) getting together to celebrate Neha's birthday. While they're out in a car, two men stop them and start moral policing, and harass them. One of them (Kelkar), introduces himself as sub-inspector Mangesh Jadhav. At one juncture, Adi goes to withdraw extortion money while Jadhav remains in the car alone with Neha.
Of course, revenge for harassment has to be harassment (sarcasm)
Jadhav leads Adi to believe that he assaulted Neha and Adi becomes obsessed to figure out what happened in the car while he was away. Assuming the worst, Adi decides to seek revenge on Jadhav by finding out his whereabouts and harassing his wife (Chawla) in return. Thus, we see how men continue to treat women as their possessions and symbol of their pride.

Remake of Malayalam movie 'Ishq: Not A Love Story'
Operation Romeo shows how women face a double burden when it comes to any kind of harassment. While both Adi and Neha get verbally abused, it is the latter who risks getting physically assaulted. Similarly, Jadhav's wife faces harassment for no fault of hers. Directed by Shashant Shah, this is the Hindi adaptation of the hit 2019 Malayalam film Ishq: Not A Love Story.
'Operation Romeo' is preceded and followed by several big releases
Notably, the film is based on a real-life incident that Ishq director Anuraj Manohar had faced. Coming to its theatrical slot, Operation Romeo will come out in a relatively competition-free week. While biggie KGF Chapter 2 is releasing the week before (on April 14), mainstream Hindi films like Runway 34 and Heropanti 2 will be hitting theaters in the next week (on April 29).
