Cancer warrior Olivia Munn welcomes baby girl
American comedian John Mulaney and actor Olivia Munn have announced the arrival of their second child, a baby girl named Mei June Mulaney. The recently-wed couple revealed that the child was born via gestational surrogate on September 14, 2024. Munn had previously disclosed her diagnosis of breast cancer and subsequent hysterectomy as part of her treatment.
Couple shares news on social media
Munn took to Instagram to share the news of their daughter's arrival, expressing her gratitude toward the surrogate. "She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel," she wrote. Mulaney also posted about the birth on his social media, saying, "I love my little girl so much." He humorously added, "We stole so much stuff from the hospital."
Munn opens up about surrogacy experience
In an interview with Vogue, Munn shared her feelings about not being able to carry her own child. She said, "With a surrogate, you have to try to go find a version of yourself somewhere out in the world." However, she added that surrogacy is no longer a scary prospect for her because it's the only option she has to expand her family.
Munn's journey with cancer and fertility preservation
Munn was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, two years after the birth of their first child, Malcolm. She underwent chemotherapy and multiple surgeries, including a double mastectomy. Prior to her surgery, Munn had frozen her eggs several times. The last retrieval resulted in two healthy embryos. Despite her health challenges, Munn remains grateful for the options available to her for both fighting cancer and having more children.
