ABC's 'Not Dead Yet' will not return for third season
ABC has officially discontinued the comedy series Not Dead Yet after a two-season run. The show, which starred and was executive-produced by Gina Rodriguez, was penned by Casey Johnson and David Windsor. It revolved around the life of Nell Serrano (Rodriguez), a newly single woman navigating her way through life's challenges post-breakup. Hannah Simone, Brad Garrett, and Angela E. Gibbs also featured in the show.
'Not Dead Yet' struggled with ratings in second season
Despite a strong start in 2023 as ABC's most-watched comedy debut in over four years, the show struggled to maintain its viewership. The ratings for the second season did not meet expectations, leading to speculation about the show's future. Per IMDb, the show "follows Nell Serrano, broke, newly single and feeling old, who is working to restart the life and career she left behind 10 years ago." It's streaming on Disney+ Hotstar in India.
Second ABC show with Latina lead cancelled
Following the cancellation of Station 19, starring Jaina Lee Ortiz, Not Dead Yet has become the second ABC show with a Latina lead not returning for a new season. However, ABC has renewed the Ramon Rodriguez-led series Will Trent for a third season. Alongside NBC's Lopez vs. Lopez, Will Trent is only the second Latino-led project on network TV.
ABC's future comedy lineup post 'Not Dead Yet' cancellation
ABC's remaining comedy roster includes Abbott Elementary and The Conners, with the latter set to conclude after a shorter, 6-episode Season 7. In addition to that, ABC also has two comedy pilots in development: Shifting Gears starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings, and Forgive and Forget featuring Ty Burrell. However, decisions regarding these projects are still pending as they have not yet been filmed.
