Why Aamir took a year to say yes to 'Dangal'
What's the story
Director-screenwriter Nitesh Tiwari recently opened up about his experience working with Aamir Khan on the 2016 blockbuster Dangal.
The movie, inspired by the Phogat family, not only dominated the box office in India but also became a rage in China.
On Aamir's 60th birthday on Friday, Tiwari shared some behind-the-scenes anecdotes and reminisced about the actor's commitment to his craft in an interview with SCREEN.
Actor's transformation
Why Khan hesitated initially
Tiwari revealed that it took Khan a year to agree to Dangal.
"I always had Aamir in my mind. He loved the script...but he was not sure at that stage of his career, he wanted to play the role as he was essaying characters who were much younger."
"Within a year, when PK was going to release, I narrated it to him again and he said, 'Lets do it...He took a year to say yes finally."
Actor's dedication
Tiwari praised Khan's dedication and passion
Tiwari described Khan as "a director's actor," saying he would go to any length to get the director's vision right.
He underscored Khan's love for the craft and revealed that the actor was so happy with the Dangal script that he didn't want any changes.
The film's music sessions, involving composer Pritam and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya, were held at Khan's Panchgani farmhouse, ensuring no distractions.
Preparation and transformation
Khan's unrecognizable appearance and preparation for 'Dangal'
Tiwari also shared an interesting anecdote about shooting scenes in public.
He said that because of Khan's weight gain and transformation, he often went unrecognized by the public.
This allowed the team to shoot scenes without any interruptions.
The director also revealed that Khan's preparation for the role included gaining weight, which he handled with humor despite facing health challenges such as high cholesterol and disrupted metabolism.
Khan will next be seen in Sitaare Zameen Par.
