Nine years of 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu'
It has been nine years since Shakun Batra's directorial debut Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu hit screens, but the new-age romantic comedy still feels fresh. Released in 2012, and starring Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan, the movie inspired viewers to believe in themselves and live their dreams. Celebrating the spirit of this movie, here are some interesting facts about it.
It marked the maiden collaboration between Kapoor and Khan
The unusual pairing of Kapoor and Khan grabbed many eyeballs, but the duo stole the show with their impressive chemistry. Interestingly, while Kapoor's character was 27-year-old, Khan's character was 25 in the movie, which marked a not-so-conventional age gap for a "Dharma couple." This movie also marked the maiden collaboration between the actors, who were later paired together in Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.
In reality too, Kapoor is older than Khan
Not just in the movie, but in reality as well, soon-to-be mommy Kapoor is older than Khan. The actors have a two-year age gap. Nonetheless, their onscreen camaraderie came as a visual delight for fans. Batra broke the age-old practice of casting young actresses opposite much older actors and selected them based purely on the demand of the roles.
The 'What Happens in Vegas' connection
While the story of Batra's rom-com was fresh, it carried a balanced inspiration from the 2008 Hollywood movie What Happens In Vegas, that starred Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher. The part where Kapoor and Khan get insanely drunk and end up marrying each other looked quite similar to that movie, but Batra still managed to lend his own style to it.
And, Avantika's cameo was the cherry on the cake
While Kapoor and Khan's sparkling chemistry in the song Auntyji was truly amazing, the special appearance by Khan's wife Avantika Malik was also unmissable. Malik, seen shaking a leg with Khan in that song, was a treat to watch for his fans. Notably, Malik has also appeared in Khan's debut movie Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na.
