Nicolas Cage's ex sues him after son Weston attacks her
What's the story
Nicolas Cage is being sued by his ex-partner Christina Fulton, nearly a year after their adult son Weston Coppola Cage allegedly assaulted her.
According to court documents, Fulton has accused Cage of ignoring their son's mental health problems and facilitating his alleged violent behavior.
The incident in question reportedly took place on April 28, 2024, during a verbal spat between Fulton and Weston that turned physical.
Lawsuit details
Fulton seeks legal action against Cage for negligence
In the lawsuit, Fulton has slammed Cage for failing to step in and help their son.
The documents read, "Weston has a long history of mental and psychological disorder and a history of committing violent assault and battery... Nicolas has been aware of Weston's history and nevertheless failed to take action."
Fulton claims Cage knew or should have known Weston was a serious threat to others given his history of violent assaults, substance abuse, and mental instability.
Accusations
Fulton alleges cage enabled Weston's 'reckless' lifestyle
Fulton has accused Cage of enabling Weston's alleged reckless behavior by bailing him out of jail multiple times, drinking with him despite knowing about his substance abuse issues, and giving him a condo in downtown Los Angeles.
She further alleged that Cage failed to ensure Weston received necessary psychiatric help and did not set any rules or guidelines to curb his apparent violent behavior.
Career setback
Fulton's injuries and impact on career detailed in lawsuit
Fulton has detailed her injuries from the alleged assault, including a brain concussion, multiple contusions, a disfiguring eye injury, dental trauma, PTSD, and psychological damages. She alleged these injuries required extensive medical care and surgeries.
The alleged attack also reportedly derailed Fulton's successful modeling and acting career. She was filming a Netflix series when the incident happened and claims it caused significant damage to her reputation.
Legal response
Cage and Weston's attorneys respond to Fulton's allegations
Responding to Fulton's allegations, Cage's attorney said, "The allegations by Christina Fulton against Nicolas Cage are absurd and frivolous."
The lawyer further said that "Mr. Cage doesn't control Weston's behavior in any way and isn't responsible for his alleged assault on his mother."
Meanwhile, Weston's attorney Michael A Goldstein said Fulton's decision to sue her son is unsurprising considering her past history of litigating against family members.
