Too much Taylor Swift in NFL's hype video angers fans
The National Football League (NFL) has found itself in hot water after releasing a hype video featuring pop star Taylor Swift more prominently than any player. The 30-second clip, intended to build anticipation for the upcoming 2024 season, instead sparked a wave of criticism from fans who felt the focus should be on the athletes rather than Swift's high-profile relationship with Kansas City Chiefs's tight end Travis Kelce.
Fans expressed disappointment over Swift's multiple appearances
Several fans took to social media to voice their irritation over the video's focus on Swift. "STOP SHOWING TAYLOR SWIFT WE DON'T CARE, (sic)" one user posted on X/Twitter, while another questioned, "WHY ARE WE SHOWING TAYLOR SWIFT 5 TIMES I THOUGHT THIS WAS FOOTBALL? (sic)." Others pointed out that star Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson—who is coming off an MVP campaign—was featured less prominently than the pop star.

Swift and Kelce's romance takes center stage
Swift and Kelce's romance has been a hot topic since the 14-time Grammy Award winner made her first Arrowhead Stadium appearance during the Chiefs' Week 3 win over the Bears last year. The couple, both 34, shared a steamy kiss on the field after the Chiefs secured their second straight Super Bowl title against the 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in February, sending the fans into a frenzy.
NFL commissioner praised 'Taylor Swift effect'
Recently, Kelce confirmed that Swift has been contributing to the Chiefs's strategy by drawing up plays. This revelation was also acknowledged by the team's quarterback Patrick Mahomes. However, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has yet to approve any of Swift's play designs. Meanwhile, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the "Taylor Swift effect" during a press conference ahead of Super Bowl LVIII. He praised the singer's ability to attract new viewers and increase interest in the game.
