Sony confirms 6th 'Insidious' film for August 2025 release
Sony has officially announced a new addition to its successful horror franchise, Insidious, set to hit the screens on August 29, 2025. This will be the sixth installment in the series, following the global success of Insidious: The Red Door. The previous film marked Patrick Wilson's directorial debut and grossed over $189M worldwide.
New 'Insidious' film distinct from upcoming spinoff
The newly announced film is separate from Thread: An Insidious Tale, a spinoff directed by Jeremy Slater and featuring Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani. Sony has yet to disclose further details about the new project, including the potential involvement of series regulars like Wilson and Leigh Whannell. The Insidious franchise, since its inception in 2010, has explored themes of hauntings and malevolent realms known as "The Further."
'Insidious' franchise will return after only a brief hiatus
Prior to the release of The Red Door, Jason Blum from Blumhouse Productions, the constant presence behind every installment, hinted at a lengthy break for the series. He stated that the fifth entry "is going to be the last we're going to see of Insidious for a while" and "it may not be a forever rest, but it's certainly going to be a very long rest." If Sony's new date holds steady, this hiatus will have lasted 25 months.
