Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the first part of Tyler Perry's new drama series, Beauty in Black. The 16-episode series is set to premiere its initial eight episodes on October 24. The show, created, directed, written, and executive produced by Perry himself, narrates the intertwined lives of two women from contrasting backgrounds. The caption accompanying the trailer read: "Heat, high stakes, corruption, family drama—Tyler Perry's first Netflix series has it all."
'Beauty in Black' explores contrasting lives of two women
The series features Taylor Polidore Williams as Kimmie, a woman striving to survive after being ousted by her mother. In contrast, Crystle Stewart portrays Mallory, a successful businesswoman. The trailer hints at a mix of drama and danger. It features a scene where one character is slapped, while another seems to be hit by a truck. A character describes the situation as "beautiful and deadly," to which Mallory responds, "Beauty in black baby."

'Beauty in Black' boasts a star-studded ensemble cast
In addition to Williams and Stewart, the cast of Beauty in Black includes Amber Reign Smith, Ricco Ross, Debbi Morgan, Richard Lawson, Steven G Norfleet, Julian Horton, Terrell Carter, Shannon Wallace, and Bryan Tanaka. The series also features Joy Rovaris as Gillian and Xavier Smalls as Angel. Charles Malik Whitfield portrays Jules while Tamera "Tee" Kissen plays Body. Ursula O Robinson appears as Delinda with Ashley Versher playing Lena and George Middlebrook portraying Officer Trackson.
'Beauty in Black' marks Perry's latest Netflix venture
The series is produced under Perry's multi-year-first-look deal with Netflix, marking his latest project following Mea Culpa in February. His previous works on the platform include A Jazzman's Blues and A Madea Homecoming, both released in 2022, as well as 2020's A Fall from Grace. The producers for Beauty in Black include Will Areu, Angi Bones, and Tony L Strickland for Tyler Perry Studios.
