Netflix to stream 'Taarak Mehta Kka Chhota Chashmah' from Thursday
Netflix is set to stream Taarak Mehta Kka Chhota Chashmah, an animated sitcom based on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), from Thursday (February 24). Neela Film Productions, the production house that has backed TMKOC, has also bankrolled the animated series. To note, Taarak Mehta Kka Chhota Chashmah is already a running show on TV and two of its seasons have aired since 2021.
Why does this story matter?
TMKOC is the longest running TV show (number of episodes). Not just that, it was also the most searched TV show (Hindi) on Amazon Fire TV Device last year, so TMKOC is popular to this day. Even though the animated series didn't strike gold as TMKOC with TV viewers, it will be interesting to see how the OTT viewers consume this content.
What the showrunner said of this development?
Talking about the new development, Asit Kumarr Modi, Founder-Director, Neela Film Productions, said, "The show's animated version reiterates the fact that pure humor can bring positive transformation in our society and at Neela Film Productions, spreading joy is pivotal to our ethos." "We're glad that our viewers, especially kids, will get to enjoy Taarak Mehta Kka Chhota Chashmah on OTT as well."
What do we know of 'TMKOC'?
The original TV show, TMKOC had its first episode aired in 2008 and till now, 3,388 episodes have been broadcast. Based on Duniya Ne Undha Chasma, a weekly Gujarati column by late columnist-playwright Taarak Mehta for Chitralekha magazine, TMKOC is currently in its 14th year. The show airs on Sony SAB and is also available on its YouTube channel. Digitally, it's there on SonyLIV.
