Mark Greaney
'The Gray Man' is based on Mark Greaney's novel
The Gray Man is based on Mark Greaney's novel by the same name.
Greaney is famous for continuing the character of Jack Ryan after American novelist Tom Clancy passed away in the year 2013.
The Gray Man is the first novel to feature Court Gentry, the titular character, who is a freelance assassin and a former CIA operative.
Gosling will be playing that character.
Big budget
This is the most expensive film ever made by Netflix
Notably, The Gray Man will be the most expensive original film ever made by Netflix, with a budget upward of $200 million.
News has it that the Russos want to create a James Bond-like franchise with this movie. Their intention is to be competitive with any large-scale theatrical release.
"We think Netflix is the perfect place for this film (sic)," (Joe) Russo told Deadline.
The movie
'A real mano a mano between two great actors'
The Gray Man will see Gosling's character, Gentry, being hunted by his former CIA cohort Lloyd Hansen, played by Evans.
"The movie is a real mano a mano between two great actors, who represent two different versions of the CIA, (sic)" Russo previously said.
The international locations for this movie have not been finalized yet, but will reportedly include multiple European countries.
