Netflix announced a new series titled The Royals on Wednesday, which will feature a star-studded ensemble: Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar, and Zeenat Aman. The show is produced by Rangita and Ishita Pritish Nandy and will provide a glimpse into the lavish world of Indian royalty. The plot of Royals will intertwine fact and fiction from the rich histories of various Rajasthani royal families, shifting between the present day and past decades.

In The Royals, Pednekar will portray a high-profile entrepreneur. The show is being produced on a grand scale, akin to The Crown, with elements drawn from the lives of royal families from Jaipur to Mewar and Alsisar. The teaser showcases the opulent setting of the show and gives a glimpse into its romantic comedy, which delves into the style, politics, and extravagant lives of aristocrats. Show marks first collaboration between Netflix, Pritish Nandy Communications
The Royals is directed by Nupur Asthana (Four More Shots Please!) and Priyanka Ghose (The Night Manager). The initial filming phase commenced on February 10 in Rajasthan with an ensemble cast including Sakshi Tanwar, Chunky Panday, and Milind Soman. After completing the Rajasthan schedule, the team embarked on a month-long shoot in Mumbai, with a brief stint in Goa planned before the series concludes.
'The Royals' to mark Aman's Netflix debut
To note, The Royals marks the first collaboration between Netflix and Pritish Nandy Communications. The modern-day Indian royalty rom-com series is anchored by the undeniable chemistry between Pednekar and Khatter. Joining them is legendary actor Aman in a special appearance marking her Netflix debut. Moreover, big names like Nora Fatehi, musician-actor Lisa Mishra, Vihaan Samat, Kavya Trehan, Udit Arora, comedian Sumukhi Suresh, and Dino Morea are also part of the ensemble.

Tanya Bami, Series Head at Netflix India said, "The Royals is a modern-day regal romance with a spectacular setting and a dazzling cast." In terms of upcoming projects, Khatter will reportedly be seen in his Hollywood debut series The Perfect Couple, which also stars Nicole Kidman. Aman is planning to make a comeback and will be seen in Bun Tikki, co-starring Abhay Deol. Meanwhile, Pednekar has Mudassar Aziz's Mere Husband Ki Biwi in the pipeline.
