Netflix's much-awaited anime remake, The One Piece, has unveiled its initial concept artwork and production team. The reveal occurred during the One Piece Day '24 live stream on Sunday (local time). The series is being produced by WIT Studio, renowned for its work on popular anime series like Attack on Titan Seasons 1-3, Spy x Family, and the Summer 2024 release, My Deer Friend Nokotan.

The production team also includes Taku Kishimoto from Haikyu!! for series composition, character designer and chief animation directors Kyoji Asano (Spy x Family) and Takatoshi Honda (The First Slam Dunk), as well as action animators Ken Imaizumi (Boruto) and Shuhei Fukuda (Call of the Night).

'The One Piece' aims to modernize the classic anime
George Wada, co-founder and president of WIT Studio, shared that the anime remake aims to attract a broader audience by enhancing the animation quality of older episodes and shifting from the 4:3 aspect ratio to the 16:9 aspect ratio used by most modern screens. "For young people who are used to watching modern anime thanks to technological innovation, the footage from 25 years ago when the anime broadcast of One Piece started may be difficult to watch," Wada explained.
'The One Piece' to stream exclusively on Netflix
The remake will adapt Eiichiro Oda's iconic series and will be exclusively available for Netflix streaming. The manga describes the first volume as a story about Monkey D. Luffy who—inspired by the tales of buccaneer 'Red-Haired' Shanks—accidentally eats the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gains the power to stretch like rubber at the cost of never being able to swim again. Luffy sets out on an adventure in search of One Piece—said to be the greatest treasure in the world.
