Netflix removed Urvashi Rautela's scenes from 'Daaku Maharaaj'? Find out
What's the story
Actors Urvashi Rautela and Nandamuri Balakrishna's Daaku Maharaaj is gearing up for its streaming debut on Netflix on Friday.
However, the film has been in the spotlight for controversy rather than celebration.
A recent report alleged, Netflix had removed Rautela's scenes from the film. Quashing these speculations, a source close to the streaming platform dismissed these claims as baseless.
"Nothing has been cut by Netflix. The same theatrical run will be released on OTT," a source informed Free Press Journal.
Controversy ignited
Rautela's absence from 'Daaku Maharaaj' promotional material sparked controversy
The controversy started when Rautela was missing from the promotional material of Daaku Maharaaj.
While the announcement poster prominently featured actors like Bobby Deol, Pragya Jaiswal, and Shraddha Srinath, Rautela was nowhere to be seen.
In an effort to quell the backlash, Netflix released a series of individual character posters, which included Rautela.
Strangely, her image was included twice in the posters, perhaps as a way to make up for her earlier omission.
Damage control
Netflix's attempted to address backlash over Rautela's exclusion
However, this did not satisfy fans who continued asking why she was missing from the posters earlier.
Given her involvement in the film and active participation in promotions, her exclusion fueled speculation and lighthearted online discussions, with many calling it a 'Moye Moye' moment.
An X user remarked, "Urvashi Rautela becomes the First Indian actress to be removed from the film just before its streaming release (sic)."
Controversy
When Rautela made insensitive remarks about Saif's stabbing case
Although Rautela appears in the trailer recently reposted by Netflix on their YouTube channel, her name is noticeably absent from the 'About' section of Daaku Maharaaj on the platform.
Rautela was among the most outspoken cast members in promoting the film. However, her promotional efforts took an unexpected turn after she made controversial remarks about actor Saif Ali Khan's stabbing incident, indirectly linking it to herself, which many found insensitive.
