#MeToo effect: Netflix introduces crazy rules for actors
Those at the helm of Netflix have come up with a set of rules which they believe will create a safe and respectful working environment on sets. As per the new regulations, the actors and the crew members cannot look at each other for more than five seconds. They are also instructed to not exchange mobile numbers. These rules are funny and bizarre in equal measures.
Lingering hugs and flirting have also been ruled out
As per the reports, Netflix has also barred its employees from hugging and flirting. An on-set runner currently working on the new season of 'Black Mirror' revealed that the senior staff went to a harassment meeting to learn what is and isn't appropriate. He further added that the new rules have already become a subject of jokes amongst the employees. And, why not.
Here's what Netflix has to say about the new rules
"We're proud of the anti-harassment training we offer to our productions. We want every Netflix production to be a safe and respectful working environment. We believe the resources we offer empower people on our sets to speak up, and shouldn't be trivialized," said Netflix.
The #MeToo movement started last year
An international movement against sexual harassment, #MeToo went viral last year as a hashtag on social media. It was aimed at demonstrating the widespread prevalence of inappropriate behavior, especially at the workplace. The public revelations of sexual misconduct allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein added fuel to the movement.
