'Ghosts' creators developing Netflix series inspired by 'Family Guy'
Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, the brains behind the hit series Ghosts, are teaming up with Big Talk Studios for a new Netflix animated series. Titled In Case of Emergency, the show takes a leaf out of Family Guy's book and is set in a British hospital. Big Talk has already produced a six-minute animatic pilot, featuring voiceovers from some of the best in the British comedy scene, reported Deadline.
It is a joint venture with Blue Zoo
Big Talk Studios is teaming up with Blue Zoo Animation Studio for this exciting new project. Blue Zoo is a British animation company known for creating kids' favorites like The Adventures of Paddington. In an interview with Deadline, Big Talk CEO Kenton Allen confirmed the development of In Case of Emergency, sharing that Netflix kicked off the animation project.
Netflix UK executives overseeing 'In Case of Emergency'
The upcoming show is being supervised by Netflix UK chief Anne Mensah and Julio Bonet, the streamer's London-based manager of adult animation. However, it's important to note that the series has not yet been officially greenlit. Rickard and Willbond have a successful track record with five seasons of Ghosts for the BBC under their belt, making it one of the most successful family comedies for the British broadcaster in recent years.
Rickard and Willbond's previous works with Big Talk
Apart from Ghosts, Rickard and Willbond have teamed up with Big Talk on We Are Not Alone, a sci-fi comedy made for BBC Studios-owned network U&Dave. They also took on the role of executive producers for the CBS version of Ghosts, which has just been renewed for its fourth season. These collaborations really show off their successful partnership with Big Talk Studios and have set the bar high for their upcoming Netflix series.
