'Narcos: Mexico' season 2: Scoot McNairy and Diego Luna return
Narcos: Mexico, on Netflix, turned back time on the exploration of the cocaine trade, taking viewers to the heart of the Guadalajara cartel in Mexico, exploring the rise of Felix Gallardo (played by Diego Luna) and the start of the drug war with the brutal murder of DEA agent Kiki Camarena. Now a second season is being made starring Scoot McNairy along with Luna.
'Narcos: Mexico' Season 1 introduced Breslin, a DEA agent
Narcos: Mexico ended the first season with Felix consolidating his position in Mexico, by paying off corrupt officials to keep running the Guadalajara cartel. The DEA, on their part, brought in McNairy's character agent Walt Breslin. McNairy revealed himself as Breslin at the end of season one and turned out to be the narrator. Notably, his casting was a secret until the show's launch.
Expectations from McNairy's character in Season 2
Breslin, McNairy's character, is expected to shake things up in Season 2. He explained in the voiceover that the events in the 1980s happened before the drug war started. He guarantees that violence, drugs, and money would explode. Since the DEA had realized they were in a war, they would take the necessary steps to convey this message to cartels.
Showrunner expressed interest in exploring Breslin's arc
Although we feel Breslin could be instrumental in arresting Felix, showrunner Eric Newman has much more grounded expectations. He drew examples of previous DEA agents we saw over the seasons of Narcos, saying that the agents might get results, as in the case of Murphy with Escobar, or might get nothing done, like Kiki with Felix. However, he expressed interest in exploring Breslin's arc.
McNairy has had roles in 'Argo', '12 Years a Slave'
The second season was confirmed within 3 weeks of the release of Narcos: Mexico. It's expected to run for 10 episodes but the release date remains unconfirmed. What excites us most is the introduction of McNairy as a prominent star in Season 2, since the actor has had roles in several prestigious movies and shows like Argo, 12 Years a Slave and Netflix's Fargo.
