'Sanju': Namrata Dutt didn't feel connection with reel-parents, explains why
Out of many efforts put in 'Sanju' by the makers, one of the hardest was bringing to life yesteryear legends Nargis and Sunil Dutt, the parents of Sanjay Dutt. In the movie featuring Ranbir Kapoor as the protagonist, Paresh Rawal played Dutt Sr.'s role and Manisha Koirala that of Nargis. As it turns out, both the characters didn't strike a chord with daughter Namrata Dutt.
Can't see anyone portraying my father, says Sunil Dutt's daughter
Speaking to SpotBoye.com, Namrata Dutt clarified it wasn't that she didn't like Paresh Rawal's role. "I can't see anyone portraying my father. He was special. I didn't connect, but I'm not the audience. I'm Sunil Dutt's daughter," she said. About Manisha Koirala, Namrata Dutt said she was okay too but added, "Being Sunil Dutt and Nargis' daughter, it's difficult to make judgments."
In real life, Sunil Dutt gave his son strength
The much-awaited movie might have been criticized for glorifying Sanjay Dutt's life and for blaming others for his wrong life choices, but the Rajkumar Hirani directorial struck a chord with its portrayal of father and son relationship. In many of his interviews, Sanjay said it was his father who gave him strength when life pulled him down.
'Sanju' done, can we get a biopic on Sunil Dutt?
If nothing else, 'Sanju' just showed the troubles actor-turned-parliamentarian Sunil Dutt had to go through to prove his son's innocence. The sad part is, he left for heavenly abode before Sanjay Dutt became a free man. As cine buffs, we would really like to see a biopic (an honest one, please) on Dutt Sr. Dear filmmakers (looking at you Rajkumar Hirani), are you listening?
