Ibrahim's 'Nadaaniyaan' release disrupts Kajol's 2025 calendar
What's the story
The year 2025 is turning out to be a busy one for actor Kajol, with three projects in her pipeline.
However, a change in debut plans for co-star Ibrahim Ali Khan has delayed the release of her first film of the year, Sarzameen.
Initially slated for a Republic Day weekend release, the film has been postponed as Khan's launch vehicle has been switched to Nadaaniyan.
Debut switch
KJo felt Khan should be launched as a romantic hero
An insider revealed to Mid-Day that Sarzameen, directed by Kayoze Irani and completed in late 2023, has been pushed back to make way for Khan's debut in Nadaaniyan.
The source stated, "Karan [Johar], who has backed both Sarzameen and Nadaaniyan, felt it would be better to launch Ibrahim as a romantic hero."
This decision led to director Shauna Gautam's Netflix rom-com being scheduled for a summer release.
Release reschedule
'Sarzameen' release pushed to late 2025, 'Maa' now leads
The insider further revealed that Sarzameen's delay also gives Irani more time to tweak the film according to Johar's suggestions.
The film, which tackles terrorism in Kashmir and sees Khan in a serious role, is now slated to release in late 2025.
As such, Kajol's first release of the year will be Maa, a psychological horror film directed by Vishal Furia, currently in post-production.
Upcoming release
Kajol's 'Maa' set for mid-2025 release, backed by Ajay Devgn
The source also revealed that Kajol's husband and superstar-producer Ajay Devgn is also backing Maa.
The film is expected to release on the big screen in June or July.
Apart from Maa, Kajol is a part of Charan Tej Uppalapati's Maharagni: Queen of Queens, too, further making her 2025 a busy one.
