'Latent' show controversy: Mumbai Police reach YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia's house
What's the story
The Mumbai Police arrived at popular YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia's residence on Tuesday, reported ANI.
The influencer who is also known as BeerBiceps, has been at the center of a raging controversy over his appearance on Samay Raina's show India's Got Latent (IGL).
The legal action comes after public outrage over Allahbadia's use of inappropriate language and jokes on the show.
A complaint was filed against him, content creator Apoorva Mukhija, and comedian Raina for their remarks on IGL.
Public apology
Allahbadia issued public apology amid backlash
Earlier today, reports suggested that Mumbai Police had issued summons to Allahbadia.
Facing the backlash, the 31-year-old had issued a public apology on social media on Monday.
"My comment wasn't just inappropriate, it wasn't even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry," he said.
He added he had a lapse in judgment and promised to use his platform more responsibly in the future.
But his remark hasn't been forgiven by the public.
Show boycott
AICWA called for ban on 'IGL' amid controversy
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has demanded a ban on IGL after the controversy.
The association condemned the episode with Allahbadia and Mukhija, saying their comments were not just offensive but also against "societal and family values."
AICWA has officially boycotted IGL and requested all actors, filmmakers, directors, and technicians to immediately stop working with anyone associated with this show.
Content regulation
The controversial episode has been removed now
In a recent episode of IGL, where Allahbadia appeared as a special judge, the YouTuber made a crass remark.
He asked a contestant if they'd watch their parents have sex or join once to stop it.
Clips capturing this moment went viral on social media, soon triggering widespread criticism.
Guwahati Police registered an FIR against Allahbadia, Raina, and others; meanwhile, the controversial episode was removed from YouTube after the Information and Broadcasting Ministry asked for its deletion.
