Previous threats against Khan resurface
This shocking incident has once again reignited concerns about Khan's safety, especially in light of previous threats against him. Last year, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) revealed that Khan was high on a target list compiled by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Notably, Bishnoi has taken umbrage at the 1998 incident involving Khan allegedly hunting a blackbuck, which he claimed was disrespectful to his community.
Foiled attacks and enhanced security measures
Bishnoi's associate, Sampat Nehra, had been surveilling Khan's Bandra home in preparation for a possible attack. However, Nehra was apprehended by Haryana Police's Special Task Force before he could cause any harm. Following these threats, Mumbai Police upgraded Khan's security level to Y+ after he received a threatening call on April 11, 2023. Additional measures have also been implemented since November 2022 to bolster Khan's security following threats from Bishnoi and another infamous gangster named Goldy Brar.
Khan's personal security measures and political reactions
In response to these threats, the actor has taken high personal measures for his safety. He has obtained a personal firearm license and a new bulletproof vehicle. Separately, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anand Dubey criticized the administration led by Eknath Shinde, expressing concern over the perceived lack of security and law enforcement in Mumbai and Maharashtra. "Whether it is Salman Khan or any common man, no one is feeling safe in Mumbai and Maharashtra," Dubey stated.
