Mumbai to get 9th IMAX theater by March-end
What's the story
The IMAX format's growing popularity continues to surge in India, increasing the number of IMAX theaters across the country.
South Mumbai introduced an IMAX screen at the Heritage Eros cinema building last year.
Now, people living across the city, in Borivali, are set to enjoy a similar experience with a new IMAX theater opening soon.
Launch details
Inox Sky City Mall's IMAX theater to open
Per Bollywood Hungama, the new IMAX screen is situated in the Inox Sky City Mall, a section of Sky City Mall in Borivali East.
The theater has a seating capacity of 228 seats, making it a tad bigger than the 227-seater IMAX at Cinepolis Nexus Seawoods.
The cinema has 10 screens, including Insignia and MX4D, with 1,372 seats.
According to reports, the theater is ready and will open before March 31, 2025, once a few permissions are cleared.
Location Advantage
Inox Sky City Mall's strategic location and accessibility
The Inox Sky City Mall is strategically located at Devipada Metro Station, enabling commuters to directly enter the mall from the station.
This convenient location will serve residents from various areas of Mumbai.
The area currently lacks a large-format mall, with the nearest shopping plaza, Growel's 101, being nearly 3km away.
The new IMAX screen will be one of the top attractions of this mall.
National lead
Mumbai leads in IMAX screens count across India
With the new Inox Sky City Mall, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will have nine IMAX theaters. This number exceeds Delhi-NCR's tally, making Mumbai the city with the most IMAX screens in India.
The other eight IMAX theaters in Mumbai are situated at Miraj Wadala, PVR Icon Lower Parel, Inox Maison BKC, Inox R City Ghatkopar, Eros Inox Churchgate, Inox Megaplex Malad, Cinepolis Nexus Seawoods, and Cinepolis Viviana Thane.
