This week, movie buffs have a plethora of options to choose from as several highly-anticipated films hit the big screen. Among the releases are the sports drama The Greatest of All Time, and the highly anticipated Hollywood sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Sadly, Kangana Ranaut's Emergency won't be released on its set September 6 date. Here's a look at the other films available this week.
But first, what happened to 'Emergency' release?
Emergency is a political thriller that delves into one of the most controversial periods in India's history - the Emergency imposed by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The Ranaut directorial won't make its Friday premiere date as CBFC withdrew its certificate. Reportedly, the film board received various petitions against its release. "Meri film pe hi Emergency lag gayi hai," said Ranaut reacting to the postponement.
'The Greatest of All Time' showcases legendary sports rivalry
The Greatest of All Time will be Thalapathy Vijay's next big venture, premiering on Thursday. Directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by AGS Entertainment, features a star-studded cast including Vijay Chandrasekhar, Prabhu Deva, Prashanth, Ajmal Ameer, Sneha, Meenakshii Chaudhary, and Yogi Babu. By Sunday, it had already earned over ₹4cr in advance booking.
'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' offers a dose of horror-comedy
Next up in the week's releases is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a sequel to the 1988 cult classic Beetlejuice. The film brings back Michael Keaton in his iconic role as the mischievous ghost, along with Winona Ryder reprising her role as Lydia Deetz. Directed by Tim Burton, the film promises to deliver a blend of horror and comedy that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. It drops on Friday.
'The Front Room' and 'Vallan' are also coming
Two other movies hitting theaters this Friday are The Front Room and Vallan. While the first is a Hollywood psychological horror thriller directed by the Eggers Brothers (Max and Sam), the latter is a Tamil investigative saga helmed by Mani Seiyon. So, which one will you be watching?
