'Moon Knight': 5 things to know before Disney+ Hotstar premiere
Moon Knight is gearing up for its grand premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on March 30. It is the sixth series to be released as part of Phase IV of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If?..., and Hawkeye. Before it releases on Wednesday, here are five things to know about the six-episode Marvel show.
Who is Moon Knight?
Moon Knight/Marc Spector is a mercenary who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. After serving the Marines for three years, he gets discharged dishonorably after striking an officer and then he joins the CIA. Following some tragic incidents, he befriends Frenchie DuChamp and both become mercenaries. On one of his jobs, Spector gets saved by Egyptian deity Khonshu, who compels him to become Moon Knight.
What can we expect from the show?
From the trailer that dropped in January this year, we can conclude Moon Knight will be dark and complex and may give MCU's tongue-in-cheek humor a miss. The trailer was bereft of any comic element and so the show might be a psychological thriller. Moon Knight may display how the superhero was born and have ample references to Egyptian culture, Egyptian gods, and mummies.
What else do we know of the show?
The episodes will be released on a weekly basis on Disney+ Hotstar. The titles of the six episodes have not been revealed yet. Directed by Mohamed Diab and filmmaker duo Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, the show has Oscar Isaac in the titular role. Ethan Hawke stars as Arthur Harrow, a spiritual cult leader of some sort, who helps Spector embrace his "inner darkness."
Meet the cast of 'Moon Knight'
Apart from Isaac and Hawke, the series stars May Calamawy, F Murray Abraham (the voice of Egyptian god Khonshu), late French actor Gaspard Ulliel, Antonia Salib, Rey Lucas, and Ann Akinjirin. Moon Knight will be one of Ulliel's last appearances. He plays the character of Midnight Man/Anton Mogart in this series. Ulliel died in January in a skiing accident in the French Alps.
This is why Isaac's casting is ideal for 'Moon Knight'
Notably, Isaac has famously portrayed Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse and also Spider-Man 2099 in the Spider-Verse series. His inclusion in Marvel expands the brand's Latinx quotient as he joins Salma Hayek who appeared in Eternals last November. Isaac also played the villain in Robin Hood (2010) and Sucker Punch (2011). He delivered promising performances in Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) and Ex Machina (2014), too.
