Korean adaptation of 'Money Heist' to hit Netflix in June
The South Korean adaptation to the Spanish hit series Money Heist has finally got a release date, title, and a trailer! To be called Money Heist: Korea — Joint Economic Area, the first part of the show will debut on Netflix on June 24. This means, it's arriving over six months after the original show concluded on the streaming platform on December 3, 2021.
Why does this story matter?
Money Heist, the original show, was a sensation. It received several accolades including the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series at the 46th International Emmy Awards and was Netflix's most-watched non-English-language series in 2018. So given that the Korean version is coming on the same streamer, the stakes are pretty high, but this gamble might work out since Indians enjoy South Korean shows.
How was the announcement made?
Netflix India took to social media to drop the great news. "Drama meets action in MONEY HEIST: KOREA - JOINT ECONOMIC AREA. Arrives June 24th, only on Netflix," they wrote. The trailer that was shared shows actor Yoo Ji-tae as The Professor. Set in a fictional Joint Economic Area, the series takes place in a world where the Korean Peninsula sees reunification.
Details about the series
The Professor is heard saying, "Of all the money heists, we'll pull off the biggest one yet," assuring the team of public support. But, instead of the Dali masks, we see him in a traditional Korean Hahoe mask. Money Heist (Korea) co-stars Park Hae-soo as Berlin, Jeon Jong-seo as Tokyo, Lee Hyun-woo as Rio, and Jang Yoon-ju as Nairobi, and Kim Ji-hoon as Denver.
Other cast members, crew
Apart from the ones mentioned before, the thriller show will also have Lee Won-jong portraying Moscow, Kim Ji-hun as Helsinki, and Lee Kyu-ho as Oslo. Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area will be spread across 12 episodes of an hour long each. It has been directed by Kim Hong-sun (Voice and The Guest). Ryu Yong-jae and his team have penned the script.
